Radio Dacorum has a New Presenter. It’s Nadine from the Volunteer Centre!

Nadine Rees Harris

For those of you who don’t know, Dacorum  has its own community based radio station broadcasting 24/7 through the internet, (www.radiodacorum.org.uk) combining music with an opportunity for residents, voluntary organisations, public authorities and private companies to promote their local activities, along with encouraging a sense of pride in the local area.

We are very pleased to announce that one our volunteers, Nadine Rees-Harris, has joined the team of presenters and is now on air every Monday at  2 p.m. playing music and helping to keep you informed of the many different volunteering opportunities available.

Nadine is the perfect person for this volunteering opportunity, as apart from her deep love of music and good communication skills she is no stranger to volunteering.

Eighteen months ago Nadine started volunteering for Volunteer Centre Dacorum, but before this she also volunteered for Break Away for Carers for 10 years, was a Befriender for Mind, volunteered for Home Start and has also volunteered in a Cancer Research Shop.

Nadine, who is extremely enthusiastic about all her volunteering experiences says ‘’I think all the things I have done within the Voluntary sector have played a key role in helping me to change my direction in the world of work. In addition, I recently attended the over 50’s Pathways course which gave me the opportunity to meet with other people in a similar situation as myself, helping me to rebuild my self-confidence and belief in my abilities’’.

The Over 50’s Pathways  course which is run by Community Action Dacorum, is designed to help mature candidates look into new avenues of work, rework their CV’s and reflect on past skills to see how they can be applied when looking for employment.

Nadine is a great advocate of volunteering saying ‘’It is such a rewarding and worthwhile activity; hence, I’d always encourage everyone and anyone to get involved.  By giving something back to your community you get so much more in return; it truly is a very positive and meaningful way to spend your spare time’’.

We wish her every success. Good Luck Nadine –   We will all be listening to you on Monday!  (To listen to Nadine, visit www.radiodacorum.org.uk and click ‘click here to play’.)
